DFCC Bank Cricket Sixes: Beyond the Boundary, Building Lifelong Friendships

There are days at DFCC Bank when conversations revolve around liquidity, customer experience, digital innovation, and sustainable growth. Then there are days when the most hotly debated issue is whether that ball really carried to slip.

The DFCC Bank Staff Cricket Sixes 2026 was one of those days.

From the moment the opening parade entered the grounds of D. S. Senanayake College, it was clear this was no ordinary staff sporting event. Twenty-four teams from across the Bank arrived in full colour, carrying names such as the Jaffna Strikers, Eastern Phoenix, Credit Hub Knights, HO Sharks, Southern Warriors, and Central Lions.

Following the opening ceremony, the National Anthem and Bank Song echoed across the grounds. Then cricket took over.

There were elegant cover drives, towering sixes, sharp catches, clever bowling changes, and determined partnerships. There were also deliveries that appeared to ignore the laws of physics, ambitious running between the wickets, and catches that seemed to disagree with gravity. Fortunately, nobody allowed technique to stand in the way of enthusiasm.

The diversity of the tournament was one of its strongest features. Colleagues travelled from across the island, many leaving home before dawn to represent their branch or department. For some, it was the first opportunity to meet teammates previously known through emails, Teams calls, or phone conversations. Before long, introductions had turned into partnerships, rivalries, and friendships.

The requirement for every team to include a female player added further energy. Women confidently took the field, claimed wickets, found boundaries, and proved that good cricket has never depended on job title, geography, or gender.

A major highlight was the exhibition match between the Corporate Management Team and the Senior Management Team. Strong performances kept spectators along the boundary before Deputy CEO Shamindra Marcelline’s final-ball six settled the contest and created a friendly rivalry likely to continue next year.

Yet the real story unfolded between deliveries: in applause for the opposition, encouragement for first-time players, and laughter after every dropped catch or ambitious appeal. The values that define DFCC Bank’s culture, passion, authenticity, courage, collaboration, and excellence—were visible throughout the day.

The tournament was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the DFCC Welfare Association, whose coordination ensured the event ran smoothly.

When the final wicket fell, Ramanayake Charges emerged as champions, while the Credit Hub Knights finished as worthy runners-up.

The trophies and medals will be remembered, but perhaps the tournament’s greatest legacy is the reminder that the strongest partnerships are not always built in meeting rooms. Sometimes, they begin with a shared laugh, a hard-earned run, or a six that travelled further than anyone expected.
