The St. Peter’s College Old Boys’ Union (OBU) today announced a year-long program of celebrations marking its Centenary: 100 years since the Union’s founding in 1927. The announcement was made at a media briefing at the Patron’s Auditorium, St. Peter’s College OBU Secretariat, attended by members of the media and the OBU’s Centenary Organizing Committee.

The Centenary Year is guided by the theme “Honoring the Past. Strengthening the Present. Inspiring the Peterite of Tomorrow.” Each part of the theme is one of the three pillars on which the year’s celebrations and initiatives are built:
- Honoring the Past: paying tribute to the generations of Old Boys whose time, resources, and loyalty have sustained the Union for a century, and to the enduring bond, formed at St. Peter’s College, that connects Peterites across Sri Lanka and around the world.
- Strengthening the Present: investing in the College and its community today through teacher development, infrastructure improvements at the OBU Secretariat, and programs that support current students.
- Inspiring the Peterite of Tomorrow: equipping the next generation of students with the skills, opportunities, and support they need to thrive well beyond school, so that the Union’s legacy continues for the next hundred years.
“Reaching a century is a milestone few alumni associations anywhere achieve, and it belongs to every generation of Old Boys who gave their time and loyalty to help this Union grow from strength to strength,” said Dr. Nirmal De Silva, President of the St. Peter’s College Old Boys’ Union. “Honoring that past also means strengthening what we do today and inspiring the Peterites of tomorrow. As we mark our Centenary, we want every Peterite, wherever in the world he may be, to feel the same sense of belonging that has held our family together since 1927.”

- A Medical Insurance Plan for all student sportsman at the College
- Infrastructure enhancements at the OBU Secretariat, including a passenger elevator and a backup generator
“A centenary is more than a milestone. It is an opportunity to honor those who came before us, celebrate who we are today, and invest in the generations that will carry the Peterite spirit forward. Our responsibility is not simply to remember our history, but to build upon it,” said Shawn Adams, Chairman of the Centenary Organizing Committee.
“The Old Boys’ Union has always been more than an association. It is a lifelong bond that connects generations of Peterites through shared values, friendship, and service. This Centenary celebrates that enduring brotherhood and the legacy we continue to build together. Every initiative we launch, beginning with the celebrations on Sunday, 18 October, will reflect our Centenary theme: Honouring the Past, Strengthening the Present, and Inspiring the Peterite of Tomorrow. Through meaningful programs and lasting investments, we hope to ensure that this milestone serves not only as a tribute to our history but also as a foundation for our future.”
